The Heads of Mission who led the national delegations of the 15 countries that competed in the South American Games ASU2022 highlighted several positive aspects that they perceived during the jousting in the country.
The XII South American Games Asunción 2022 were held in our country from October 1 to 15, and will have the participation of 15 ODESUR member countries, which competed in 34 sports and 53 sports disciplines, plus two exhibition sports: chess and paddle tennis. For this multi-sport party, 7,000 athletes, officials and coaching staff and 4,000 volunteers were present.
Eduardo Barrios, head of the Ecuadorian Mission, expressed his gratitude for the attention received during the ASU2022 Games; “I thank the Paraguayan public, the authorities, the government, everyone who made this beautiful event possible. We are very happy and we leave with a great experience, we carry Paraguay in our hearts”, he expressed in an interview conducted by the sports organization.
“We have spent some years as part of the Olympic movement in events of this nature, but we have never had, and I say it with capital letters, the attention of the people, they call it the world capital of friendship for a reason, Asunción has lavished. I don’t know if they were prepared or it’s the culture, but at all times we were surrounded by people who lent themselves to help us”, she pointed out. In addition, she highlighted the kindness in the streets “it is nice to walk down the street and that people look at you to greet you, this is not seen in many people, in many countries,” she indicated.
For its part, Carlos Gabriel Férrea, head of the Argentine Missionmentioned that the ASU2022 experience for the delegation was very productive “we got a wonderful image of all of Paraguay, its people, and of course the wonderful sports facilities.”
“We have felt at home,” he said, highlighting the courtesy of the Paraguayans, “the cordiality, the kindness that we have received from the people of Paraguay is remarkable, because when one comes to compete, many times the rivalries in the fields of Games exist, but here we have all behaved in the best way, and I repeat, the sports scenarios have helped the competitions to develop in the best way”, he pointed out.
“We leave with the best experience, sincerely Paraguay, Asunción, ASU2022 team, Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Secretary of Sports: You have done very well, I congratulate you with all my heart, They have to be very proud of what Paraguay has achieved and how it has positioned them in the world of sports,” he said.

Leyla Felicita Chihuan Ramos, Head of Mission of Peru, He mentioned that it was a good experience and that they want it to mark a before and after for the delegation. “For Team Peru it is a very pleasant experience. We want it to be a before and after for many of our athletes, some are already entering retirement within their sports activity and we are seeing new values as Team Peru, so we have an even greater responsibility, they already know what is good, they have already come to Asunción then our next Games have to be, on our part, of great quality for them”, he asserted.
Martínez commented on his years in the sports career and his experience in our country. “I have had a sports career for nearly 20 years, I have participated in both world championships and the Olympics and it is my first time in Paraguay, so to see how they are managed, the system, how we have been able to adapt and adapt to all circumstances, seeing an organization, seeing a country that emerges, just like ours, that cares, just like ours, about its people and above all about tourists, about the people who visit it, that experience is wonderful and pleasant. We have been very happy, very comfortable, and really until the last day we felt at home. Thank you, Asunción and thank you Paraguay”, he finished.
