MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban artivist and political prisoner Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara (LMOA) could have started a new hunger strike, as reported to Radio Television Marti the opponent Claudia Genlui.
“I’m going down the hill,” Otero Alcántara told Genlui, who explained that this is the phrase he uses to start his hunger strikes.
The art curator, close to AMLO, indicated that in a phone call he told her that the peaceful protest would be in response to the harassment he faces in the Guanajay maximum security prison, where he has been detained since July 11, 2021, when he left his house to join the popular protests of 11J.
“He said that he was being the victim of censorship by State Security, such as, for example, they did not let a friend of his for many years who was going to see him enter,” Genlui said.
This would be the fourth hunger strike carried out by the leader of the San Isidro Movement since he has been imprisoned.
Last June 24 The Prosecutor’s Office announced the sentence of five years of deprivation of liberty for Otero Alcántara for the alleged crimes of continued insult to the symbols of the country, contempt and public disorder. Otero Alcántara has refused to appeal said sentence.
Since the sentence was announced, numerous human rights organizations have denounced their situation and demanded their release from the regime.
