This Thursday, the president of the Power of attorney, Elvia Barriosspoke about the current situation and pointed out that the work of this institution is to maintain the “fair balance of powers”. He also added that on various occasions this power of the State is “demanded and overwhelmed”, but that they will not give in.
“As the Judiciary, we fulfill the task of ‘hinge power’ that maintains the fair balance of powers and that the Constitution has conferred on us, but that each time it is demanded and overwhelmed to succumb to the situation and we are not going to do it. In the face of this, we cannot give up a millimeter in our task of being guarantors of the rule of law,” he said.
Likewise, he stressed that judges must act with “judicial independence”, since it is “an essential and transversal characteristic in judicial work.”
“It is a guarantee for the citizens, it is a duty, it is a principle and those of us who hold the investiture can only resolve it under the rule of law,” he said from the inauguration of the judicial headquarters in the province of Chepén.
“That’s why it is important to have a selection system for magistrates that they provide confidence because what we want is to have citizen confidence, which is difficult in the current situation when a lot is said and a lot is done,” he added.
