Police and firefighters work in a gas leak in the avenue area Millán and Blandengues in the Aguada neighborhood (Montevideo)afterto a broken pipe which is on one of the sidewalks.

Personal of Montevideo Gas and Firefighters controlled the leak and are making repairs at the scene. “The situation is controlled, there is no longer any risk”said to The Observer the spokesman for FiremenPablo Benitez.

According to official sources, The Observer It was an attempted robbery of a bronze valve to the meter of a house. Although the service was not running, the connections were made.

The regulator is a device that lowers the pressure from 4 bar to 20 millibars so that the pressure used by gas appliances enters the internal pipe. Whoever tries to remove the valve cuts the entrance pipe to the service and the leak occurs there, added sources of the case.

There were no injured people. The closest neighbors who were on the street were evacuated by the police. The attempted robbery occurred around 5:30 p.m. At the scene, people reported a strong smell of gas and noise from the gas coming out of the damaged pipe.
