After almost three hours of meeting at the National Palace between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and leaders of the People’s Front in Defense of the Land (FPDT), of San Salvador Atenco, actions were agreed to be coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources. in the Texcoco region where the airport was intended to be developed. Among the actions, positions were approached on the future of the environmental project that the federal government has planned in that area.
Although the members of the FPDT, including Ignacio del Valle, chose not to speak after the meeting in the presidential offices, it was learned that one of the axes of the talks was the restitution of 1,200 plots of land to the members of said front that were expropriated. as a result of the airport project suspended at the beginning of the current administration.
At the time, after the federal government published in the Official Journal of the Federation the declaration of a protected natural area on the land that was to be the New International Airport of Mexico City, in Texcoco, and some surrounding areas, the FPDT considered that the declaration means the recovery of the basin from what had already been thought to be lost
with this publication, agricultural spaces can now be strengthened to support peasants, allowing them to live from agriculture or generate other options.
As part of the conversations held yesterday at noon, the region’s water recovery project and the development of productive activities were also alluded to. The meeting was held on good terms and there will be others to fine-tune actions by Semarnat, whose head, María Luisa Albores, participated in the meeting.
