Over the years there have been various bill proposals to try to reduce the salary of congressmen in the country.
In fact, recently, the Senate approved in second debate an initiative that seeks to reduce wages: de 35 million pesos to 25 million pesos maximum.

However, the previous proposals they did not get through all the debates and this one needs another six more sessions.
Now, a study of The country, of Spain, showed that Colombia has one of the highest figures in terms of salary of parliamentarians compared to several countries in Europe and Latin America.
Among them: Mexico, Peru, Chile, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela.

Even, the country surpasses Germanywhich is recognized for the good remuneration of its parliamentarians.
The Country of Spain clarifies that the comparison of salaries is complex since different factors must be taken into account, such as expenses according to the standard of living of the population, premiums, transportation and other types of benefits that parliamentarians have.
Salary is also measured in terms of equity. That is, according to the minimum wage of citizens.

Currently, congressmen earn around 35 million pesos per month. For its part, the minimum wage for 2022 is 1 million pesos. Namely, parliamentarians in Colombia earn 34 times more than the average citizen.
In the case of Brazil receive 22 minimum wages and in Chile 17 minimum wages. In Germany there are at least 6 salaries, according to the study by El País de España. This makes Colombia the country with the highest salary for congressmen in Latin America.
Germany, Chile, Panama and Peru follow in the list. The lowest salaries are found in Guatemala, Argentina, Honduras, Bolivia and El Salvador.
