The Contemporary Music Festival of Havana began this Thursday with a concert in the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, in the Historic District of Havana.
The day anticipates concerts in other venues such as the Casa de las Américas, the José Martí National Library and the Cuban Art Factory until November 5.
The event will pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the National School of Art and the Musical Renovation group eight decades after it was founded, informed the president of the Organizing Committee, the pianist Guido López-Gavilán.
He said that the festival will include the pianists Cecilio Tieles, Marcos Madrigal and Aldo López-Gavilán, the violinists Ilmar López-Gavilán and Lissy Abreu, the flutist Niurka González, the guitarist Millet Padrón, the Promúsica duo, the National Choir of Cuba under the direction of Digna Guerra and the Musica Eterna Chamber Orchestra.
He also highlighted the extensive program of presentations, characterized by the diversity of sounds and artists, as well as theoretical meetings at the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in Vedado.
According to the organizers, on the 1st. and November 2, starting at 9:30 am, colloquiums will be held in the Rubén Martínez Villena room of Uneac.
Tributes will also be made to figures of Cuban culture such as Enrique González Mantici, Gisela Hernández, Manuel Duchesne Cuzán and Federico Smith.
The event will conclude on November 5 at the Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asís, at 6:30 pm, with the special concert Hug between Festivalswhich will give way to the Habana-Clásica Festival.
