The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, reported, after the XLVIII Meeting of Ministers of the Interior and Security of Mercosur and Associated States, that the purpose of the two main declarations signed by the leaders of the bloc is to improve police coordination in the fight against terrorism and punctually support Paraguay in the fight against transnational organized crime.
At the meeting, which took place this Wednesday 26 in Montevideo, within the framework of the presidency pro tempore from Uruguay in Mercosur, also attended by the Minister of Security of Argentina, Aníbal Fernández; the Minister of the Interior of Paraguay, Federico González; the Vice Minister of Institutional Security of Brazil, Carlos Renato Machado Paim, and police representatives of the associated nations.
Heber explained that a joint declaration was voted to promote the coordination of the police intelligence of the countries of the bloc, due to the link between terrorist activities and criminal organizations. He added that combating this type of organization is a fundamental part of the defense of nations and the continent.
On the occasion, he also reported that one of the official communiqués of the meeting is in solidarity with the Government and people of Paraguay, in their fight against terrorism. Federico González, for his part, thanked the Mercosur governments for their support in combating transnational organized crime. In this sense, he highlighted that the improvement in coordination shows important results both in his country and in the region.
