Within the framework of the inauguration of the new premises where the National Cybercrime Headquarters of the Investigative Police (PDI) will work, the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, addressed the current situation in the country in matters of crime and security.
This, one day after the Fundación Paz Ciudadana revealed the existence of a “high fear” of the citizenry in the face of crime, which reached its highest level in more than 20 years.
In this sense, the President assured that Chileans “have the right to live in a safe country and without fear. In a State of law, violence is unacceptable and must be attacked with the greatest determination.”
Emphasizing -once again- his unrestricted support for the Carabineros to combat crime, the President pointed out that “as a Government we care deeply about the reality of crime and hopefully all the media would contribute to objectively reporting on it.”
Taking up the data provided by the Fundación Paz Ciudadana, the head of state declared that as a government they are “interested in the perception of security.” But “that people stop doing things because they are afraid”, he pressures the State to carry out a task “with much more force”.
Along the same lines, the president called for “recovering public spaces from crime”, which “has to be a joint effort, led by the State, strengthening the police, but also in conjunction with the private sector.”
We are aware “that there are many people who live in great fear and fear in itself is a security problem, because it makes us go backwards. When the State goes backwards, when society goes backwards, drug trafficking advances, crime advances,” concluded the head of state.
