The president of Congress, Roy Barreras, once again insisted in the creation of a single currency for Latin America. This would have the objective that the region stops depending on the volatility of the dollar and combat the devaluation of the peso.

The announcement was made this Wednesday, October 27, from the Andean Parliament and will be taken, officially, to the next Summit of the Americas.
“The creation of a single currency that gives us solidity, and that does not force us to continue depending on the fluctuations of the big economies, of foreign currencies with our own fragmented currencies, victims of foreign policies. In Colombia we can see, in figures regarding the devaluation of the currency and the growth of the dollar, how we are almost defenseless before the decisions of the central banks, North American, European, Asian”, said Roy Barreras.
Barreras’ proposal also contemplates a single parliament that is binding for a real integration that builds a strong economy to compete in the world and “talk face to face with the United States, Asia and Europe,” assured the senator.

Barreras, who is one of the figures closest to President Gustavo Petro, assured that Latin America has an advantage over Europe that it is “the same history, the same language, in most cases the same faith”.
“If Latin America unites, that is the future of this continent in the 21st century, a dignified America”, the senator pointed out. Barreras made this proposal during the Latin American and Caribbean Integration Summit that took place in Bogotá together with presidents and vice presidents of the region’s parliaments.
