The university community of the public houses of study will be “electoral companions” in the municipal elections on November 6, a process that has been classified as a “farce” by the opposition.
The president of the Supreme Electoral Council (CSE), Brenda Rocha, and the president of the National Council of Universities (CNU) and rector of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua), Ramona Rodríguez, signed a cooperation agreement so that the university students participate in the electoral process.

The agreement also establishes that after the votes the CNU will prepare a “technical report” on the municipal elections that will include a section of recommendations. The CNU has participated as a “companion” in the electoral processes since the presidential elections of 2006, according to publications on its website.
Both institutions also agreed that all the CNU campuses will be at the disposal of the Electoral Power and may serve as Voting or Computing Centers on the day of the municipal elections.
“This participation will contribute to the culture of peace, in the culture of that consolidation of the process of democracy and later, as was done last year in the 2021 elections, the technical report that they will provide us with their respective recommendations” , affirmed the Ortega magistrate Brenda Rocha.
The CNU is made up of public universities confiscated by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. It is made up of sympathizers of the government party, the same situation that is registered in the CSE, all the magistrates are Sandinista militants or were elected by the Ortega deputies.
The university community of the CNU study houses is under the command of the National Union of Students of Nicaragua (UNEN), a tentacle of the regime to maintain absolute control of young people in higher education.
While the CSE allows the CNU all the facilities to “accompany” the questioned votes, it has blocked the local and international electoral observation organizations so that they do not document the irregularities that they pointed out when they could be in Nicaragua.
