MADRID, Spain.- The state-owned Cuba-Petroleum Union (CUPET) company confirmed this Wednesday that it does not have fuel to distribute throughout the country.
In a concise and imprecise note, CUPET indicated that this situation, one of the many problems that have increased over the last year, is due to “operational logistics difficulties and higher than usual demand.”
According to information shared via Facebook, the workers “perform all the necessary tasks to stabilize the supply to the service centers.”
“We have the support of specialized teams from other agencies for road transportation from the Cienfuegos Refinery to the entire country. This Refinery has the necessary raw material for the production of gasoline and other products”, adds the note.
However, it does not explain what these specialized teams are doing or offer short-term solutions.
This week, CubaNet He showed in a report the endless lines that Cubans have to stand in almost all service centers in Havana.
Last Saturday, dozens of cars waited in a long queue of more than four blocks at the CUPET in Santa Catalina, municipality of Diez de Octubre. However, there was no fuel. The images were captured by the cameras of this medium.
“You have to be here for when the fuel comes in, there is no other way, because if you leave, later, when it arrives, there is no one who can buy it,” he told CubaNet one of the drivers who remained in the queue.
The same thing happened in the CUPET at the roundabout in the municipality of Guanabacoa. Unlike others, this one did have availability of gasoline and diesel fuel. The queue here spanned about eight blocks.
The longest line was located in the CUPET of the Guanabacoa intermittent. In this service center, customers also waited for the arrival of the fuel.
“I can’t leave here until I buy because what I have left of gasoline isn’t enough to get home, I’m not leaving here if it’s not with a full tank,” said another driver who had been waiting for more than five hours in The tail.
