The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega revealed on the morning of this October 26 the total number of damages caused in Nicaragua after the passage of Hurricane Julia, which according to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, left a loss of 367 million 800 thousand dollars for damages in different sectors of the country.
The report presented by the Minister of Finance, Iván Acosta, presented affectations mainly in infrastructure and in the social, productive, environment, health, education, telecommunications, energy, water and sanitation sectors. Acosta thanked the United Nations Agencies and Multilateral Banks for their support, to whom he also asked for support in mobilizing the necessary resources to respond to the emergency.

For his part, the director of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in Nicaragua, Uriel Pérez, stated that they are working on “identifying the availability that exists within the signed loans and that can be used more quickly to cover the immediate needs of the impact of the hurricane.
On October 18, the president of CABEI, Dante Mossi, announced that the regional organization benefited the Ortega Murillo dictatorship with half a million dollars to deal with the damage caused by Hurricane Julia.
Representatives of the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations participated in the meeting held at the Foreign Ministry, which has been one of the most outstanding supports for the affected families, as recognized by the deputy president Rosario Murillo.
Also present were representatives of the World Food Programme, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the Pan American Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Office for Project Services, and the United Nations Organization for Industrial Development.

Recently, the insurance company Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF) stated that Nicaragua will receive a disbursement of 8.9 million dollars to deal with the damage. The insurance company indicates that in order to “activate the catastrophe policy”, the cyclone must affect countries with winds greater than 39 mph (62.7 km), therefore the Nicaraguan government managed to obtain those funds, due to that Julia reached winds of up to 120 km.
“Nicaragua was the only CCRIF member country for which CCRIF’s wind and storm surge loss model produced government losses due to Tropical Cyclone Julia,” the insurer notes.
For his part, Dr. Guillermo González, minister director of the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (Sinapred), stressed that they have taken a first step with several cooperation agencies, finding availability to collaborate, so they will proceed to activation of work and meetings with Sinapred to coordinate.
