Director of Civil protectionYesnardo Canal confirmed that this Tuesday, October 25, “a 13-year-old boy named David Rangel” disappeared in the waters of the Piscurí River in the Libertador municipality (Abejales), specifically in the Puerto Nuevo area.
“The incident occurred after four in the afternoon, and according to the versions of the relatives, the minor was using and enjoying this body of water together with three neighbors, when he was dragged by the current,” he said.
Canal highlighted that the search actions began an hour later (5:30 pm) with Civil Protection personnel from the area together with authorities from the Libertador (Abejales) and Fernández Feo (El Piñal) municipalities, who intensified the investigation downstream of where the event was recorded.
In the face of the emergency, fishermen and residents of the area joined in with the purpose of contributing their knowledge in the area and making the protocol of the authorities more effective.
“That is why Táchira Civil Protection has issued an early warning about the increase in rivers and streams (…) it is determined that for the moment the use of these water tributaries is prohibited, since there is a record of rainfall in the headwaters” , he clarified.

“The mobilization of heavy machinery to the affected area, carrying out an intense operation that allowed the prompt restitution of the pass, in whose work the IVT staff joined, as well as the Ministry of Popular Power for Land Transport and the Mayor’s Office,” he clarified. .
Márquez stressed that despite this action, those who pass through the area must remain alert “since the displacement of recurrent landslides persists at different points of the road, which it is estimated will be intervened when the technical conditions allow it through the development of repair works. cleaning and reprofiling of slopes, since most of these are oversaturated by the very effect of the rains”.
