This morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador considered it necessary to carry out an investigation into the Fast and Furious operation, which was launched during the government of Felipe Calderón.
“The Fast and Furious operation is clearly illegal, in violation of our sovereignty and that was agreed between the governments of the United States and Mexico. That is no longer allowed. Imagine agreeing so that weapons are clandestinely introduced from the United States to Mexico with sensors so that these weapons reach criminals and that with those sensors it is possible to detect who uses them and stop them and go for them. Unfortunately they used those weapons for homicides,” the president said.
Yesterday, Adán Augusto López Hernández assured that former President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa was being investigated internationally for the alleged sale of official weapons to organized crime groups.
“The weapons that were intended for our Armed Forces and for the police ended up being sold to crime and organized crime, that is why García Luna is detained in the United States, that is why there is an international investigation against Felipe Calderón, and that has to be definitively forgotten,” said the official before the Congress of Michoacán.
The former president later denied that there is any international investigation against him. “Now the secretary is very lost: there is no ‘international investigation’, none, on ‘arms trafficking’ against me. Adán Augusto would not even be able to say which agency heads it. It is a crude and desperate effort to divert attention, ”Calderón Hinojosa noted on his Twitter account.
