Professor Alina Bárbara López Hernández, who denounced on Tuesday State Security harassmentpresented this Wednesday before the Matanzas Provincial Prosecutor’s Office a “formal complaint and annulment action against the official citations” that have been delivered to him so far.
As stated in a publication on Facebook, the documentation “was received by a friendly prosecutor who read the letter and answered some of my concerns.” This official agreed, says the professor, “in that both identification cards lack the obligatory legal formalities and she will be interested in information before the State Security organs.”
López Hernández asserted, referring to one of the latest regulations approved by the Government: “What is clear to me, due to the legal advice I received, due to the detailed reading I made of the Criminal Procedure Law (LPP), and even for the answers that the Prosecutor gave to my doubts, that no citizen can be summoned under invocation of said Law if there is no open criminal proceeding in which he is being summoned as a witness or accused in the accusation.
Similarly, he continued: “Neither is Counterintelligence an actor recognized by the LPP to interact with a citizen if that legal process were opened, its functions are others. Likewise, there is no such thing as an ‘interview’ in the LPP.”

Almost 200 comments on his publication this Wednesday showed the support that his words have aroused, mostly congratulations and thanks. “He sent them to study, chapó,” Francisco Oliva wrote. For her part, Yanet Rodríguez expressed: “She is so generous that she is teaching them free civics and personal greatness! Who knows if even the gendarmes learn something!”
“What he did seems very good to me,” said Carlos Alzugaray. “Cubans often ignore what our rights are and, consequently, we do not demand that the representatives of the State, who, in all fairness, are nothing more than public servants, to abide by what is established by law. On the other hand , the organs of the State tend to act with total discretion without adhering to respect for the rule of law. With his serene, respectful but demanding attitude, he is giving us all a lesson in civic education”.
