Ferdinand Iron, former professional soccer player for Real Madrid and the Spanish team and current sports director of the Chivas from Guadalajarasaid he was “very excited” about this new professional stage in the Mexican team, which he compared to the Athletic Club of Bilbao of the Spanish League by being able to count only on national players, a circumstance that “touches the sensitive part”.
iron has passed all his life linked to football. First as a professional footballer between 1987 and 2005 and later as sports director of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, assistant coach of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, coach of Real Oviedo and Spanish coach at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“Am content and happy to return to football because it is part of my life. We wanted after the pandemic and, although we had quite a few projects, this touches the sensitive part. Chivas is like Athletic Club de Bilbao, it is a team for only those born in Mexico”said Hierro, during his participation in the forum ‘Special Qatar 2022’ framed in the EFE Sport Business Days.
“When they called me what excited me was the project because they work a lot with the lower categories and that is what they had done in the Spanish federation. It has forty million followers, thirty-five in Mexico, and it has a sustainable project and a great fan base behind it,” he pointed out.
The former Real Madrid soccer player recognized “the globality of the world of football” and highlighted “the new experience in a new country”.
“I’m very excited. They are one of those projects that when the president, someone 35 years old, explained to me, I said we had to try it. We played two championships, Apertura and Clausura, everything is played very quickly, and I think it’s a nice challenge because of the way we compete,” he said.
Iron was of the opinion that the “Mexican player is always good both at a technical and physical level, he competes well”, and assured that the championship will also be a challenge due to the “height and the schedules”.
one of the first decisions that Hierro has to take in Chivas is to choose the coach who will lead the team next season.
