They demand that minors be authorized to enter “El Chipote” to visit their parents who are political prisoners

They demand that minors be authorized to enter “El Chipote” to visit their parents who are political prisoners

After two months had elapsed without the relatives of the political prisoners captives in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ) in Managua can visit them, the opposition Civic Alliance demanded that the Ortega regime respect the right to visit.

“We demand that the right to receive visits and communicate with their family be respected while they are released. They are innocent! ”, demanded the opposition bloc on its Twitter account.

They also reminded the Government of Nicaragua of Article 128 of the Regulations of the Law on the Penitentiary Regime and Execution of Sentences, which establish hearings as a right of those deprived of liberty and that they cannot be restricted without probable cause.

“During family visits, up to a maximum of six people over 12 years of age per inmate to visit will enter the visiting area of the penitentiary center. The entry of children under 12 years of age is allowed, when they are accompanied by their parents, guardians, and they will enter without a visitor’s card,” the political group quoted.

Ortega violates the right to visit

Despite the article cited, the Ortega dictatorship —according to the relatives of the political prisoners— has violated the rights of the imprisoned opponents in “El Nuevo Chipote”, because despite the fact that most of them have already been sentenced, they do not have the right to be visited. in accordance with the prison regulations.

After more than a year of captivity in the so-called torture center, Ortega’s justice has only allowed 10 visits to political prisoners, the last one was between August 26 and 28.

Ortega also continues to deny that the minor children of hostages of conscience can visit their mothers or fathers. Only the dictatorship authorized that the son of the former presidential candidate Michael Mora and the opponent Tamara Davila could visit them, but the other parents have been denied the right.

This violation of the rights of political prisoners is described by Margin Pozo, partner of the journalist Michael Mendoza, as “psychological torture”. «On October 27, I have not seen Miguel for two months —Mendoza—. It is a desperate situation. I am concerned about Miguel’s health and life, they do not provide us with information on how he is, “said the journalist.

Mendoza is on strike for 37 days, demanding to be able to see his eight-year-old daughter for the first time, with whom he has not had any type of communication since June 21, when the sports writer was arbitrarily detained by the Police.

Pozo recalled that Alejandra, Mendoza’s daughter, has asked to see him in different ways and so far that right has not been fulfilled. “She is suffering from the absence of her father and that hurts me as a mother.”

Cenidh: “Family members are desperate”

After these two months of the dictatorship denying visits to the relatives of political prisoners, the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) pointed out that “the relatives of political prisoners are desperate. #VisitsNow #FreedomNow».

“Is this a new form of torture? Does the Ortega Murillo dictatorship harden the repression?”, questioned the human rights organization to the regime and Nicaragua.

Nicaraguan justice keeps at least 219 political prisoners behind bars, 50 of them —including priests— are being held in “El Nuevo Chipote”, in Managua. So far the dictator Daniel Ortega shows no sign of wanting to free them and seek a way out of the political crisis.
