Bogotá expects 140,000 daily covid infections for February

During the balance of the Epidemiological Committee District that was recently held, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia Lopez, noted that the dominant omicron variant is expected to bring the country’s capital to the fourth wave contagion of covid-19 at the beginning of February.

We believe that we will have 140,000 positive cases“said the mayor, who in turn gave a piece of reassurance, since it is expected that mortality and occupation in intensive care units (ICU) will not be high as occurred in previous peaks.

López added that “we do not expect to have restrictive measures. The care is called DAR (detect, isolate, report) and vaccination“and also confirmed the total return of the students to the presence in public schools in Bogotá since January 24, 2022.

The mayor also wrote on Twitter the city is preparing for the return to the presence in schools: “Let’s keep taking care of ourselves: always masks, hand washing and vaccination“.

For the city secretary of Education, “Bogotá is ready. The year 2022 is going to be the year of presence and pedagogical transformation. We privilege boys and girls and that is why their protective place is the school“.

The District confirmed that the vaccination card will not be required of students as a requirement to attend in person. “And if outbreaks occur, we will control … in no case will we make a total closure of the outbreak school“added the Ministry of Health.

THE FIGURES OF COVID-19 IN BOGOTÁ

In accordance with Saludata, currently in the capital of the country there are 44,231 active cases and the ICU occupancy for the virus is at 56.9 percent (311 occupied beds of the 547 arranged for covid-19).

The fatality rate has been decreasing, on January 11, 2022 it was at 1.82%; on December 31, at 1.87% and on December 15, at 1.89%.

According, Vaccine meter, 86.2% of the total population with useful coverage (90% of the population older than 12 years) have already completed the vaccination schedule and 93.3% have at least the first dose.

THE CARE RECOMMENDED BY THE MAYOR

– Complete the vaccination schedule for children and adolescents before January 24.

– Advance with the application of the booster dose at four months.

– Strictly monitor the vaccination card.

– Use face masks, hand washing and ventilation.

– Change the mask on a daily basis.

– Intensify the DAR care: detect symptoms, isolate themselves for 7 days and report to the EPS.
