Ricardo Montaner sponsors imprisoned Cuban rapper Maykel Castillo 'Osorbo'

(EFE).- The Argentine-Venezuelan singer-songwriter Ricardo Montaner “sponsored” the rapper Maykel Castillo osorbone of the authors of the musical success Homeland and Life, who is serving a nine-year prison sentence in Cuba.

In a video published on social networks, Ricardo Montaner, an artist who has sold millions of records throughout his career and is based in Miami (USA), stated that he has joined forces with the Venezuelan lawyer Tamara Suju and the Instituto Casla to denounce the situation of political prisoners in the world.

“While everything is going on around us, there are people unjustly rotting in prison,” said the singer, announcing that he sponsored Osorbo, imprisoned since May 2021 and convicted a year later on charges of contempt, attack, public disorder and defamation of institutions and organizations, heroes and martyrs.

“From here, dear Maykel, I send you a big hug, and I want to be your godfather, and I want to make your problem visible. I want to make visible what is happening with you,” Montaner stressed in his message.

“While everything is going on around us, there are people unjustly rotting in prison,” said the singer when announcing that he sponsored Osorbo

Maykel Osorbo, 39, was tried along with the founder of the San Isidro Movement, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, imprisoned since July 11, 2021 and who served five years.

The sentence was criticized by the European Union, Amnesty International and the Human Rights Foundation, among other organizations.

Osorbo was detained more than a month before the 11J anti-government protests due, according to the Cuban Attorney General’s Office, to an incident in the street with police officers.

The imprisoned rapper was the only one of the artists of Homeland and Life, the anthem of July 11, which could not attend the Latin Grammy Awards last year, where the song won the awards for best song and best urban song.
