STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes decided that Jefferson should return to preventive detention for failing to comply with imposed precautionary measures, such as not posting on social media. On the last fridayOn this Friday (21), in a video published on the internet, Jefferson attacked the minister Cármen Lúcia, referring to her with profanity.

During compliance with the decision of the STF yesterday (23), at Jefferson’s house, in Levy Gasparian, in the interior of the state, the former parliamentarian reacted to the arrest, throwing a grenade and shooting at the Federal Police (PF) team.

Two police officers were hit by shrapnel from the grenade thrown by Jefferson and had minor injuries.

The arrest warrant was only concluded at night, after an intense negotiation between the PF and the former deputy. In addition to complying with the STF warrant, the PF arrested Roberto Jefferson in the act for attempted murder, according to a statement released by the police.

Before being sent to the Benfica jail, Jefferson was initially taken to the PF Superintendence in Rio of January for the drawing up of the arrest warrant in flagrante delicto and other formalities related to the execution of the arrest warrant.

“The Federal Police reaffirms that it acted with all the technique and protocols required for the resolution of crises, culminating in the prisoner’s surrender”, informs a note from the PF.

According to the State Department of Penitentiary Administration of Rio (Seap), Roberto Jefferson will also participate todayof a custody hearing.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes published, last night, a note on his Twitter profile in which he sympathizes with the injured police officers. “Congratulations for the competent and professional work of the Federal Police, pride of all of us Brazilians. Any aggression against the police is unacceptable. I sympathize with the agent Karina Oliveira and with the delegate Marcelo Vilella who were, cowardly, injured”.

The President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, initially published a text on Twitter repudiating Jefferson’s stance in relation to Cármen Lúcia and her armed action against the police, but also criticizing the existence of what he called “inquiries without any support in the Constitution and without the action of the MP”.

Later, Bolsonaro published a video in which he calls the former deputy a bandit. “As I determined to the Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, Roberto Jefferson has just been arrested. The treatment given to those who shoot a police officer is that of a criminal. I offer my solidarity to the police officers injured in the episode.”

The Minister of Justice also published a video on the ministry’s social networks, in which he classifies Jefferson’s reaction to the arrest as “a serious episode”. “This episode motivated us to come here, to the Juiz de Fora Police Station of the Federal Police to follow the work and to see the unfolding of these facts. Really serious facts that call our attention. At this point, I would like to sympathize with the federal police officers injured in this event. Thank God everyone is okay,” he said.

The minister, who calls Jefferson an “offender”, also sympathized with Minister Cármen Lúcia for the verbal attacks she suffered from the former deputy.
