The Humanitarian Social Observatory (OSH) presented the results of its 4th community monitoring: scope of centers and vaccination conditions against Covid-19 in Venezuela, with data collected in the 24 states of the country, from April to September of this year. According to the report, during that period, there was a significant increase in the provision of the third booster dose. The percentages ranged from the start of the study from 70% to 77%.
Julio Castro, infectious disease doctor, indicated that, although in 76.62% of the centers booster doses are being supplied to complete vaccination schedules, there are periods of suspension of attention to the public due to lack of vaccines.
The study revealed that 75% of the centers suspended their care for the entire week; while in 10.42%, the interruption was 1 day or less than 3 days. These figures registered a significant increase since in April it was 35.29% and in September 72%.
Castro warned that the inactivity of the centers is observed in a higher percentage in the states: Monagas (66.67%), Portuguesa (55%), Mérida (45.59%) and Capital District (45.59%). While Bolívar, Nueva Esparta, Guárico and Carabobo have the lowest percentages of inactive centers.
Vaccination centers closed due to lack of vaccines
The monitoring determined the main causes of the inactivity of the vaccination centers and among them the lack of vaccines turned out to be the first with 36.54%, while school vacations obtained 25% and public service failures 7.69 %. Dr. Castro explained that these reasons have varied over time: “the lack of vaccines showed a decrease from June, which was 71.73%, to September. Other variables remained more or less stable, except for the transience of the center, which increased”.
Vaccination centers in the states of Carabobo, Cojedes and Trujillo were 100% inactive due to lack of vaccines, contrary to Amazonas, Apure, Barinas, Delta Amacuro, Distrito Capital, Falcón, Guárico, Mérida, Nueva Esparta, Portuguesa, Sucre and Yaracuy no monitored center was inactive for this reason. In total, 21.65% of the vaccination centers are inactive because they no longer have vaccines.
