Bishop Báez: “Monsignor Rolando Álvarez is innocent and deserves to be released”

"I demand to know where and how Bishop Álvarez is", the demand of Monsignor Báez to the Nicaraguan regime

Monsignor Silvio Báez, auxiliary bishop of Managua, continues to demand the freedom of his brother in faith Monsignor Rolando Alvarezbishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa, who this Sunday, October 23, celebrates 80 days since he was kidnapped by the Police at the service of the Daniel Ortega regime.

“Like every Sunday I remember with affection, pain and nostalgia my brother bishop, Monsignor Rolando José Álvarez Lagos, unjustly detained by the Nicaraguan dictatorship,” said the religious during the start of Sunday mass from the Santa Agatha church, in Miami, United States.

“Monsignor Rolando is innocent and deserves to be released. I ask everyone to pray for him; that we demand and that our voice be heard. We want to see him and we want to know how he is! We demand his freedom », expressed the prelate.

Báez also demanded that the bishop return to continue his evangelizing mission to the Diocese of Matagalpa and Estelí and took the opportunity to greet all the parishioners of those cities.

Like Monsignor Báez, the opposition Blue and White National Unity would have demanded today the freedom of the Bishop of Matagalpa. “We denounce the kidnapping of Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, Bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa. We demand that it #ShowNow and leave it in #FreedomNow». the opposition bloc demanded through his Twitter account.

On August 4, the Ortega police prevented the prelate from leaving, who was in the Episcopal Curia of Matagalpa, along with priests, two seminarians and a layman.

On the 19th of the same month, riot police raided the compound, leaving the chief under house arrest and his companions confined in the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua, who have been prosecuted and held hearings behind closed doors.

The Ortega regime, through the Police, pointed out that Álvarez’s arbitrary detention was to “recover normality for the citizens and families of Matagalpa.”

Bishop Álvarez is one of the 11 priests detained by the justice system of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, who in 2022 launched himself against the Catholic Church, preventing even freedom of worship.
