Seven months before the legal term expires, the number of requests for the legitimation of collective bargaining agreements (CCT) intensified by union organizations. For the remainder of the year, at least 1,500 consultations are scheduled, a figure above the average of the 400 registered in the last quarter of 2021, according to official data.
The processes will be carried out in companies from different sectors, such as automobiles, insurance companies, universities, tourism, hotels, food, and self-service, among others, whose unions throughout the country are obliged to legitimize the CCTs that they maintain in force before the 1st of May 2023.
Of the more than 1,500 consultations planned to validate or not a CCT by workers, 648 will be carried out in accordance with article 18 of the protocol on the matter. In other words, this assumption is applicable if a union has more than 2,000 members or if it is required to carry out the consultation in two or more places or in two or more days, for which it may propose to the Federal Center for Conciliation and Labor Registration the procedures and rules for making the query.
It should be clarified that the data of the federal center are variable as the application and registration processes by the unions progress.
One of the unions that will carry out its consultation next week is the National Union of Workers of the National Monte de Piedad and Pledge Loan Companies, whose employees have expressed their rejection of the liquidation of the collective contract that the national administration of the institution of private assistance.
Others that are approaching are the voting processes in some Walmart stores, a company that will have to carry out different legitimations due to the fact that in each work center there is a CCT, some under the ownership of the Confederation of Workers of Mexico and others of the Revolutionary Confederation of workers and peasants.
According to the federal conciliation center, so far more than 2 million workers have voted personal, free, secret and direct
for the legitimation of 7 thousand 908 CCT, of the 500 thousand that are estimated to exist at the federal level.
For the labor authorities, it is foreseeable that this universe of contracts will not be legitimized, since it is expected that only around 15,000 documents will be validated. The objective is to purge the protection or inactive CCTs, which were deposited before the Conciliation and Arbitration Boards.
