Sunat seized more than eight million contraband cigarettes valued at S/400,000

The National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), reported that more than eight million contraband cigarettes that had been declared as if they were “tissue paper” and valued at around one million S / 400,000, were seized at the port from Callao.

The operation was carried out at the DP World Callao facilities, where a container containing merchandise declared as tissue paper destined for Bolivia was seized. However, when carrying out the physical review, due to the risk profiles detected, the shipment of cigarettes, Lucky Strike brand, camouflaged.

The customs agents determined that this illegal action was intended to evade the payment of the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC), applied to the commercialization of said product, for an amount of S/ 720,000.

The cigarettes had all the required characteristics (distributed in packs and warning messages about their consumption) for their commercialization in the national market. The representative of the Public Ministry ordered the beginning of the investigations to sanction those responsible for this crime and the transfer of the cargo to the Sunat warehouses.

The commercialization of contraband merchandise becomes a form of unfair competition against those merchants who do comply with their obligations and currently reactivate the economy.

Sunat will continue with its permanent controls to prevent the traffic of restricted merchandise, promoting formalization.
