A total of 823,400 single parents receive today (13) the retroactive payment of additional quotas of the first five installments of emergency aid, paid between April and August 2020, informed Caixa Econômica Federal. The payment will total R$ 4.1 billion and had been authorized by provisional measure (MP) Edited on December 24th.
Credit will be made through the Caixa Tem app in the same digital savings account used to receive emergency aid. The application allows the payment of household bills, purchases at affiliated establishments and transfer to other current accounts. The status of the benefit can be consulted at Ministry of Citizenship page on the Internet.
Each single parent will receive between R$ 600 and R$ 3 thousand, depending on when they started receiving emergency aid. It will not be possible to ask for the inclusion of the benefit because the payment will only occur for those who received the first five installments of the emergency aid in 2020. The extra payment is not valid for the emergency aid extension of R$ 300, which was in force between September and December 2020, nor for the seven installments of the 2021 emergency aid round.
Historic
In July 2020, President Jair Bolsonaro had vetoed a bill authored by opposition deputies that extended to single-parent family providers the double receipt of emergency aid created during the covid-19 pandemic. With the veto, only single female heads of family received the installments of R$ 1,200 (double the original amount of R$ 600).
On July 1 of last year, the National Congress, in a joint session, overrode the veto. Only at the end of 2021, the government expressed itself on the issue and edited an MP with the expansion of the benefit.
“With the edition of the MP, the Brazilian State reiterates its efforts to guarantee the regular offer of services and programs aimed at the population in general, especially the most vulnerable, giving public bodies and agents access to instruments capable of mitigating the harmful effects of pandemic on Brazilian society”, informed the Palácio do Planalto when editing the provisional measure.
