SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader yesterday gave the first punch for the rehabilitation of 11 streets of the Colonial City, as part of the Comprehensive Program for Tourism and Urban Development of that tourist area, which will have an investment of RD$5,000 million.
Speaking during the activity, the president specified that the project is executed by the Ministry of Tourism, the Mayor’s Office of the National District and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
«There will not be a single place in the Colonial City without being renovated. All this is a dynamic process to make it a radiant Colonial Zone, in which we can share all its history, culture and all the religious legacy », he expressed.
The PIDTUCCSD is executed by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR), through the Program Coordination Unit (UCP), and in coordination with the Ministry of Culture (MINC) and the Mayor’s Office of the National District (ADN), with the aim of revitalizing the Colonial City in its urban, economic and cultural tourism aspects.
Prior to this activity, the president together with the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, led the launch of the Support Program for Micro and Small Businesses (PAM) and the “Turizoneando” program, which seeks to promote the development and improvement of the supply of goods and services in the Colonial City, to contribute to the growth of tourism activity and local commerce, optimizing opportunities for micro and small businesses (MyPES).
On his side, Minister Collado said that since he was mayor of the National District, he has given his full support to the work that has been carried out in the Colonial City, “which has been part of my life.”
