Binational Parliamentary Meeting “historic moment”

Binational Parliamentary Meeting "historic moment"

The Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, described the first Venezuela-Colombia Binational Parliamentary Meeting, scheduled for this Friday in Cúcuta, as a “historic moment”.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, Benedetti said that he will be present at this important meeting in the reestablishment of relations between Venezuela and Colombia.

“Today we will accompany another historic moment for the reestablishment of bilateral relations with Venezuela: the first binational parliamentary meeting in Cúcuta. We continue to work for a successful reopening for the well-being of two sister countries,” wrote the ambassador.

At least 80 parliamentarians will meet in the first binational meeting of the National Assembly of Venezuela and the Congress of the Republic of Colombia.

At the meeting, which will take place on the Simón Bolívar bridge, legislators define the roadmap between the two countriesand will establish the next border meetings in Zulia-Guajira, Táchira-Norte de Santander, Apure-Arauca and Amazonas-Amazonas, he reviewed. Latin Press.

The president of Commission II of the Colombian legislature, Gloria Flórez, and the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, announced the holding of this first meeting after the resumption of political and commercial relations between the two nations.

Senator Flórez, who proposed this initiative, assured that the two legislative bodies are ready to offer their assistance in overcoming the crisis generated by the rupture of the ties between the two countries.

This rupture produced enormous economic losses, human rights violations, a huge increase in crime, and illegal economies, as never before in the history of the two nations.

Likewise, it caused the separation of entire families and the consular abandonment of millions of Colombians and Venezuelans.

In this sense, the congresswoman from the Historical Pact specified that “the idea is to exchange proposals to make the dream of embracing each other as brothers come true and accompany five binational meetings along the 2,219 kilometers that unite us as peoples,” she cited Telesur.

In this regard, this Thursday Florez reported that they were working on the final details prior to the meeting.

Beyond the Binational Meeting

After the meeting at the Simón Bolívar bridge, the legislators will hold a discussion in Villa del Rosario together with national, regional and local authorities, the Parlatino, the Andean Parliament, civil society and trade associations.

They will exchange “proposals to make the dream come true of embracing each other as brothers and accompanying five binational meetings along the 2,219 kilometers that unite us as peoples,” said a press release.

Among the activities planned for today, which will be carried out in a shared manner in Colombian and Venezuelan territory, stand out a work meeting of the presidents of the congresses and of the foreign policy commissions; as well as a meeting of legislative and executive authorities and social movements.

Likewise, the signing of an agreement between the two parliaments and a Final Declaration that will be announced at a press conference is expected.
