Havana Cuba. — The mother of political prisoner Luis Robles Elizástigui, Yindra Elizástigui Jardines, denounced that her son, who has been in prison for almost two years, Combinado del Este maximum security prisonis in danger of being prosecuted for common crimes due to threats from the Chief of Discipline of his company.
“Yesterday my son had a visit and I saw that he was downcast, worried and even nervous (…), he told me that he had had a problem with the Chief of Discipline, who let him know that he could make his life miserable,” he told CubaNet.
Robles Elizástigui is in Unit 2, Collective 10 of Company 2203. According to what the young man told his mother, the Chief of Discipline, who is a common prisoner and whose name he still does not know, told Luis that in order to To get to any prison leader, you had to count on him.
“Luis told him that this was nowhere because it was a right that they had, and that he was not going to count on him to do it. This partner told him that he could plant drugs or weapons to prosecute other crimes and thus be sentenced to more years, “Yindra stated.
According to the mother of the young man from Guantanamo, such threats have caused her concern about the state of Luis Robles in prison, since “he is not a bandit, nor a drug addict, nor a troublemaker”; but he is serving a sentence of five years in prison for peacefully protesting on San Rafael Boulevard.
“If tomorrow I am notified that Luis Robles was prosecuted for a new crime that has to do with that, I want you to know that it was unfounded; And if that Chief of Discipline wants to ruin my son’s life, let those who have to do with it take action, because in the event of anything that happens to him, I will get where I have to go, ”he warned.
Before reporting through CubaNet the situation of Luis Robles in the Combinado del Este, Elizástigui Jardines went to the Directorate of Penitentiary Establishments, in Havana’s Vedado and, according to what she says, the officer who attended her told her that this type of complaint was not made there.
“In the prison, the Head of Unit 2 attends on Mondays, and with the Head of the Combinado, Lieutenant Colonel Adonis Charchabal, you have to request a specific interview; but I am Luis’s mother and I have every right to address the problem quickly so that it can be solved”, he concluded.
Last July, Yindra Elizástigui Jardines denounced through this medium that the young man, convicted of the alleged crimes of disobedience and enemy propaganda, is being denied promotion to a minimum severity regime. Despite the fact that Yindra has denounced such a situation, even today they continue to deny Luis the right to work in an open camp, with his respective pass, in the time that he has.
Yindra Elizástigui also stated that she will continue to demand the freedom of her son, “unjustly imprisoned among criminals”, and denouncing everything related to his integrity and his rights as a prisoner.
