Personally, as a survivor of viral pneumonia caused by the virus in my body and a sequel to it, which consisted of peripheral polyneuropathy, hearing the voice of the experts about the new strain is very discouraging.
For the infectologist and former commissioner against influenza in the country, Dr. Alejandro Macías, the panorama is devastating, since the advance of the virus has no way of being stopped. The expert noted on his twitter account: “Never has an infectious disease been transmitted with the speed that the variant does Omicron. At this rate in Mexico, half of the population will be infected in the following weeks. “
For Dr. Macías, the acceleration of this variant threatens us latently for the entire first third of the year.
For obvious reasons, one of the most resounding cases has been the second infection suffered by the president Lopez Obrador, when he thought that “It was a flu.” Again, the voices of the different sides began to rise to support and criticize that the head of the Executive had fallen ill, for the second time.
Reconciliation
In a political polarization like the one we experience every day in our country, the opposing sides are moving further and further away, they are radical positions. The messages that are sent through social networks, can end up falling into hate speech and degradation.
However, despite living such a complicated and violent season, the experience that we have had to live during the past two years also allows for reflection by those who no longer see the pandemic as a political issue and have come to understand it as a public and general enemy. That has only left us sadness, grief and mental problems, in every town or city, in every country, around the world.
The fact that López Obrador fell ill again could be a perfect opportunity in the opposition, to seek to torment and cut off the head of the government obradorista with extreme criticism. And although there were few positions like this one – that of Ricardo Anaya, for example–, most of the most representative political figures against AMLO dedicated words of encouragement and good wishes to the president.
Ómicron opens a small door to understanding, reconciliation and unity. Because we are all exposed to challenges that we had never expected, but as survivors, we no longer laugh at the misfortune of others, even the worst adversary we may have.
