Suicide cases have been on the rise and the Covid-19 pandemic has helped this increase, either due to various factors such as debt, stress, depression, among others.
According to the director of the Healthy Relations Foundation, María Daniela Pérez, suicide can be preventable if we detect it in time.
He explained that in Panama the rate indicates that every three days a person dies by suicide, according to statistics from the Public Ministry last year, however, during confinement the rate increased to one death every two days.
“Probably a person does not wake up one day and make the decision to kill himself, it is a series of situations that have been occurring throughout the life of this person. One begins with symptoms or difficulties and healthy tools are not available to deal with mental health difficulties, it may be that the person does not seek help in time or makes decisions to resort to alcohol, drugs or other measures that do not favor, “he explained.
