Financial Time: The US will end Guaidó's "interim" in three months

The Venezuelan opposition, more divided than ever and isolated internationally, seeks to end the “interim government” of the country, and displace Juan Guaidó.

Three of the four main parties of the Unitarian Platform opposition alliance backed the decision to end the so-called “interim” and stop recognizing Guaidó as “interim president” of Venezuela and had enough votes to push it through, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. , citing a senior figure from the opposition alliance and reviewed by HispanTV.

This decision comes as Venezuela’s 10 main opposition parties have agreed to hold primary elections in June 2023 to choose a single candidate for the presidency. Elections will be held in 2024.

However, the worst seems yet to come when two sources close to the opposition leadership announced on the same day to CNN that the United States, Guaidó’s main ally, plans to stop recognizing him as interim head of state in January 2023, when he begins a new legislative sessions.

Shaken by countless corruption scandals, Guaidó and his entourage, more divided than ever, are now one of the most hated figures even among opposition supporters in the South American country.

The end of the interim period, as well as the expulsion of Guaidó from the opposition leadership, are, in fact, an acknowledgment of defeat by the right and constitute a victory for Maduro.
