Prior to the vote, Vergara requested that it be taken into account that the report of the Constitution Commission on the change of regular members of the Ethics Commission who serve on the Board of Directors of this working group is still awaited.
This is because a sector of Popular Action sought to remove Karol Paredes from the presidency of the Ethics Commission, despite the fact that the regulations establish that the mandate in said position is two years.
Elías Varas, from Perú Bicentenario, rejected the final report and stated that “it seems that they want to eliminate the people who presumably vote against the vacancy.” “I dream that I am sure will never come true,” he said.
Another person involved in the Los Niños case also came out in defense of Verga Mendoza. This is Darwin Espinoza, who denounced a “witch hunt”, since the case “is still under investigation”.
“If you found some crimes, pass the word to the Public Ministry, which has not yet found the crime. Everything is conditional,” Espinoza said. Later, she revealed that Karol Paredes, president of the Ethics Commission, visited her office with mayors of her region to ask her to intercede in ministries.
Finally, Fujimorist Juan Lizarzaburu “congratulated” the work of the Ethics Commission for recommending the suspension of unionized activists like Los Niños.
