Price said that the United States closely monitors the local political situation and recalled the visit of the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, at the beginning of October, the same one in which he held a meeting with the president at the Government Palace.

Along these lines, the State Department spokesman assured that the Organization of American States (OAS) “can potentially serve as a partner” in the process of strengthening democracy in Peru. This under the principles of Inter-American Democratic Charter.
“We share a hemispheric commitment to the defense of democratic values, human rights and the rule of law. That was the message Secretary Blinken delivered at his high-level meetings with his Peruvian peers last week,” he added.
Democratic Charter
This Thursday, the OAS Permanent Council agreed to express “its solidarity and support for the democratically elected Government of the Republic of Peru, as well as for the preservation of democratic institutions.”
It was also ordered that a high-level commission, made up of representatives of the member states, visit Peru to prepare an analysis of the Peruvian situation. Said report shall be forwarded to the Permanent Council.
