This Thursday it was confirmed that the seat of the representative to the Chamber for Antioquia, Daniel Carvalho, would be at risk due to a lawsuit that was admitted in the Council of State.

The lawsuit was filed by Luis Humberto Guidales García, who belongs to a citizen oversight office. The plaintiff argues that Carvalho ran for Congress with the backing of the Oxygen Green party with about 37,000 votes.
However, Guidales argues that his election is invalid because on July 16, in a general assembly of the Green Oxygen Party he was expelled because of what community, headed by Ingrid Betancourtargued that he did not defend the ideals of the party.
It is questioned that he took office with the endorsement of a party from which he was expelled four days before July 20, the day he received his credential as a congressman of the Republic.
For these reasons, the plaintiff requests that the administrative act that endorsed the election of Daniel Carvalho as representative to the Chamber for Antioquia.
The plaintiff points out that there is double militancy, which is expressly prohibited by law. “(…) the candidates who are elected must belong to the party that registered them while they hold the investiture. In other words, as a requirement to hold the investiture as a member of a public corporation, the elected candidate must belong to the party that registered him,” cites the plaintiff.
In recent days, Carvalho spoke against the stigmatization of drug use and stated his position in favor of regulating and revealed that he smokes marijuana 25 years agogenerating great controversy in certain political sectors.

“I have smoked marijuana for 25 years and that has not prevented me from graduating as a Civil Engineer with the best grades. Graduated from two master’s degrees with the best grades. Being a good professional and being elected three times by popular vote to different positions. What has hurt us is the lack of information“, said Carvalhoin the midst of the strong discussion that the Chamber is experiencing.
