After Gabriela Alpajón’s third place, today Thursday the Cuban mixed duo won a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Championships (CCCAN) held in Panama.

In the technical routine test, the mixed duo made up of Soila Carely and Andy Ávila reached 65 5814 units. They earned 20,000 for execution, 20,200 for printing, and 25,3814 for technical items.

The gold and silver medals went to Jennifer Cerquera and Gustavo Sánchez (73 2940), from Colombia, and Maya Belmont and Diego Villalobos (72 4706) from Mexico.

The pairs from Guatemala and Puerto Rico closed the table, with 64 2994 and 64 2369, respectively.

On June 24, Carely and Ávila produced an unprecedented result, advancing to the final of this event at the World Aquatic Sports Championships in Hungary, where Cuba debuted with a male representative in synchronized swimming.

In Panama, Cuba opened its medal table with Gabriela Alpajón’s bronze in the technical solo on Wednesday, when, together with Dayaris Varona, she finished fourth in technical duets.

Cuba will also compete in free routines for women’s pairs, the team event and the routine highligth. The contest will grant quotas for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.
