In the month of September, the number of people without work increased 0.4% compared to the previous month and stood at 8.3%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), since 56.8% of people of working age are employed.
The labor supply, which is measured by the Activity rate, remained stable: while in December 2021 it was 62%, it is 61.9%. The Employment ratewhich represents the demand for labor, rose just 0.2% from 56.6% in August to 56.8% in September.
Therefore, unemployment registered a rise to settle at 8.3%, but still without touching the 11.2% registered in October 2021.
It was estimated that the number of people without work is, to date, about 148,700.
Unemployment in the interior is higher than in Montevideo: the measurements gave 8.7% and 7.6%, respectively. Among the employed, 8.6% are underemployed and 20.6% are in a situation of “non-registration” in social security, that is, working “in the black”.
