José Williams: What the OAS decides will in no way affect processes in Congress and the Prosecutor's Office

The president of Congress, José Williams (Avanza País), affirmed that In no way will it affect the processes in Parliament, the Public Ministry and the Judiciary.

In a statement from the Board of Directors, the head of that State power indicated that the Legislature is willing to receive the agency’s mission to dialogue with the Board of Directors and the Nation’s prosecutor, Patricia Benavides.

“Whatever the OAS decides is their right and we are signatories of the treaties and protocols that concern us with them, since they are able to do so, but that will in no way affect the procedures or processes that they have to perform different actors and agencies of the Peruvian State. I am referring to Congress, the Public Ministry, the Judiciary, the Ombudsman’s Office, they all continue to carry out their activities”he expressed.

“We are ready to be able to receive them and we think it will be good for them to come, to talk to the Prosecutor’s Office, which, with all certainty, has a lot to say and a lot to report; talk to Congress, obviously we have a lot to say; surely he will speak with other institutions, with the press”he added.

After indicating that it was not appropriate to activate the OAS Democratic Charter, Williams Zapata also questioned the fact that the Council of State and the Security and National Defense Council.

“These are two instruments that the State has that could easily summon them and have them there to be able to talk and do everything possible so that things work well within the State”he underlined.

As recalled, the OAS Permanent Council approved the request made by the Government of Peru to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter and a visit is made to monitor the situation in the country.

During the session that took place this Friday, October 20 at the request of President Pedro Castillo, the proposal made by the Permanent Representation of Peru before the OAS was evaluated, where it was proposed to accept all the points of the request made by the Peruvian Government.

With this, the OAS approved the creation of a commission that will visit the countryat the same time that he made an exhortation to solve the political crisis in Peru in a preventive manner and through dialogue.
