Steven Gerrard was dismissed as Aston Villa manager this Thursday, hours after his team’s defeat on their visit to Fulham (3-0) on the twelfth date of the Premier League.
“Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that manager Steven Gerrard is leaving the club with immediate effect,” Aston Villa said in a statement.
“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and his commitment and we wish him the best for the future,” the statement added.
Liverpool legend, Gerrard pays for the poor results of the Birmingham team, 17th in the Premier League with the same points (9) as the 18th and first team in relegation, Wolverhampton.
Gerrard led Aston Villa to 14th last season after arriving in November from Scottish Rangers to replace the sacked Dean Smith.
This twelfth date of the Premier League was for ‘Los Villanos’ their fourth consecutive day without winning and the second in a row losing.
Harrison Reed (36), Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic (68, penalty) and Tyrone Mings own goal (84) scored for Fulham, who played half an hour with one more player due to the expulsion of the Brazilian Douglas Luiz (63).
