Social, political and union organizations mobilized this Thursday in the capital of Jujuy against the adjustment and reform of the province’s Constitution and demanding the annulment of legal cases against social leaders, within the framework of a provincial day of protest.
The march was carried out through downtown streets and ended in front of the Government House, which was heavily guarded, where the referents expressed their criticism of the administration headed by Governor Gerardo Morales, and called for a provincial strike.
“Enough of the persecution and no to the blacklists” and “enough of the threats in the workplace” were mentioned in some posters carried by the demonstrators, among whom were the CUBa MTR Movement, Polo Obrero, Darío Santillán Popular Front, the National Piquetero Bloc, together with members of the Front of the Left Unity and members of the Union of Municipal Employees and Workers.
“In Jujuy there is a criminalization of protest, when we go out to demonstrate because of the situation that is happening in the province because of the tariff increase and because of other social demands, there are violations,” said Cecilia Corregidor, a reference for the CUBa MTR group (Coordinator of Teresa Rodríguez Movement Neighborhood Unit) of Jujuy.
Along these lines, he stated that “we are going to continue in the streets and we are not going to allow the Constitutional reform to be carried out” and said that “we know that Morales kicked it for later to continue gaining ground, he manages everything.”
The referent highlighted the participation in the protest of several union sectors, such as the Argentine Union of Rural Workers and Stevedores (Uatre) and the SEOM.
For his part, Sebastián Copello, from the Polo Obrero de Jujuy, affirmed that “as in the ’90s there is a unity of the employed and unemployed to march against the adjustment and the Constitutional reform and to say out Morales and all the capitalist politicians.”
“The workers and employees of the mobilized SEOM demand free and homeless parity, we reject the adjustment of the Government and the persecution of the constituent,” said the general secretary of the union, Sebastián López.
