The Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN), Antonio Guterres, lamented the death of dozens of Venezuelans due to the floods and landslides derived from the rains of recent days.
“It extends its deepest condolences to the Government and the families affected by the floods and landslides that affected several locations in Venezuela, particularly in the northern state of Aragua,” reads a note published on the UN website.
Guterres recalled that the United Nations is providing support, in coordination with the emergency response of national authorities, to meet the needs of the most affected people.
The rainfall of recent days has generated damage and effects in different cities and states of the country. On October 8, a landslide in Las Tejerías, Aragua state, caused the death of some 50 people.
On Monday, October 17, three deaths were recorded due to the flooding of a river in El Castaño, also in Aragua.
As well as Aragua, the states of Mérida, Guárico, Anzoátegui, Falcón, Meriva and Zulia have suffered damages due to rainfall.
At the beginning of October, Venezuelan authorities counted more than 64,000 affected since the start of the rainy season in June.
President Nicolás Maduro urged on Tuesday the 18th to reorder the nation territorially in order to minimize the risks of disasters
