Luis Barrios, founder of Hoteles City in 2002 (along with Javier Arce), is one of those restless businessmen who always go for more. His previous stint at Grupo Posadas allowed him to dimension a segment that was not sufficiently served at that time: frequent business travelers who stay around 1.9 nights and usually travel light. With his expertise and enthusiasm, he managed to convince various investors and in the first twelve months they opened five hotels, the first in Saltillo.
In April, during the celebration of its 20th anniversary, he calmly recalled: We named City Express thinking of the need to have a foreign brand in order to have a lot of impact. We bet we would have a certain preference. And yes there was success. In the second year they opened five more hotels and since then the only thing that slowed down growth was the 2020 pandemic, but they have already resumed the course with their offer that includes various segments with rates from 650 and 1,750 pesos to 3,000 pesos per night in City Centro, with which they offer premium level products.
With the certainty of being attentive to what is happening in the industry, in recent months Barrios has focused on satisfying the expected trend: leisure travelers. Item that he “uncovered” after several months of confinement and that he already knew, but he had not attended his business. At the same time, he strengthened his interest in offering experience options to guests.
