The Senate approved this Wednesday the Executive’s proposal to extend the emergency postnatal permit until December 30. Now it will be up to the Chamber of Deputies to review the initiative.
It was with 36 votes in favor and none against that the Upper House approved the rule, which extends the postnatal period for up to 150 days. Which will work retroactively if approved, from October 1.

This measure was promoted for the first time during the most serious moment of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Government has already indicated that this will be the last extension. Unless “there is a return to sanitary conditions similar to those at the beginning of 2020,” they said.
For her part, the Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Jeannette Jarawho was present for the vote, valued the approval and thanked the senators.
