Bruno Rodríguez: “The world would be better without the blockade against Cuba”

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, cuba, Embargo, Bloqueo

MIAMI, United States. — Barely a day after the offer of humanitarian aid by the United States government to those affected by Hurricane Ian, the Cuban regime released its latest report on the economic damage caused by the economic and financial embargo in force since 1962.

This is a new version of the document “Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”, which will be voted on again at the beginning of November in the United Nations General Assembly.

The presentation of the report It was in charge of the foreign minister of the Cuban regime, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who updated on the latest figures of losses registered by the authorities of the Island due to the so-called “blockade”.

“I am going to give a new data. Between August 2021 and February 2022, the losses caused by the blockade are in the order of 3,806 million dollars. It is a historical record amount for a short period such as these seven months,” said the senior official.

The accounts of the island’s regime indicate that “Cuba’s Gross Domestic Product, according to very conservative data, could have grown, despite the adverse circumstances facing the Cuban economy, by 4.5% in that period, if it had not been applied those measures.”

Rodríguez Parrilla maintained that “the economic blockade is the central element that defines the nature of the United States policy towards Cuba” and that it “was strengthened to unprecedented levels under the government of President Trump.”

In that sense, the Cuban foreign minister blamed the Democratic administration for, supposedly, not reversing the policies of the previous president.

“Today the policy of President Joseph Biden against Cuba is unfortunately and inertially the same Republican policy. No changes have been made to that policy,” he argued.

The Foreign Minister maintained that Cuba can purchase food in other markets and even in the United States. However, he stated that “the blockade deprives Cuba of the financial resources necessary to make these purchases in the United States or to make similar purchases in third markets.”

Finally, Rodríguez Parrilla assured that the end of the “blockade” would be the best solution for Cuba and the United States, as well as for the world in general.

“Cuba has the right to live without a blockade, it has the right to live in peace. Cuba would be better off without Blockade, better off without Blockade. Everyone would be better off without Blockade. The United States would be a better country without a blockade against Cuba. The world would be better without the blockade against Cuba.”
