MEC will grant scholarships for 150 million pesos to Teacher Training students

MEC will grant scholarships for 150 million pesos to Teacher Training students

The Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) will assign scholarships to students in their fourth year of Teacher Training, which will allow them to dedicate most of their time to study. These students must attend public or private institutions that, by March 1, 2023, have presented the will for university recognition, based on Law No. 19,889, indicated the head of the portfolio, Pablo da Silveira.

The Secretary of State maintained in a press conference, this Tuesday the 18th in the assembly hall of the ministry’s headquarters, that this is the first economic support from the ministry, of 150 million pesos for 2023, to promote the university degree in this area.

He pointed out that, according to estimates, some 1,500 scholarships could be awarded next year, which would represent half of the students in the fourth year, and recalled that the national system of subsidies for Teacher Training was created by means of the law of urgent consideration, n º 19,889, of July 9, 2020.

The minister explained that during 2023 scholarships will be offered only to fourth-year students preparing to take the final certification exam. As of 2024, they will be assigned to third and fourth year students, and the beneficiaries must participate in at least two courses dictated by the MEC and take a test in some of the first three editions to access university recognition of the degree. .

The amount of each scholarship will be up to 3,318 indexed units (UI) per month. The total annual figure for each student will depend on the number of subjects they take in 2023.

The criteria for granting the benefit will consider aspects such as the number of subjects to be attended in the year, schooling and the economic situation of the family nucleus. The bases and inscriptions are available from October 18, 2022 in the MEC website.

Da Silveira added that, in the coming days, new financial aid will be announced, aimed at public or private institutions that wish to access the aforementioned recognition.
