A small plane fell on a busy street in the port city of Guayaquil, in southwestern Ecuador, on Tuesday, leaving two people dead and one seriously injured, according to a statement from the Integrated Security Service ECU-911.
The ECU-911 indicated that this afternoon the fall of a small plane was reported between José María Robles and Isidro Ayora streets and that it coordinated the emergency attention with personnel from the Municipality, the Police, the Fire Department, the Secretariat of Risks and the Armed Forces.
The source specified in a statement that it is known that the aircraft, white in color, had as its flight plan the route between the city of Manta and Guayaquil, on a route of about 200 kilometers.
Local authorities confirmed that the pilot of the aircraft was seriously injured and the two deceased were passengers.
“The pilot searched, because we could see it, where to crash. It was almost zigzagging in the air, it looked for a place to crash and found a park, and it crashed in the park so as not to affect the house of any of the people who are here and not lose more lives,” reported the mayor of that Ecuadorian port, Cynthia Viteri.
The local authority maintained that “it is a tragedy where someone who had expertise and prevented more people from dying.”
The plane exploded when it hit the park in the La Alborada neighborhood, in the north of Guayaquil, according to images released on social networks.
The ECU-911, reported on his Twitter that several surrounding streets have been closed to traffic, while the assistance units act at the accident site.
In images spread on social networks, you can see a fire and an intense smoke in the placeas well as dozens of onlookers stationed in nearby places.
A video has also been published in which a plane is seen gliding over several buildings, apparently descending and quickly.
The event shocked the town in which the inhabitants of the surrounding areas quickly approached to try to help those affected.
Among the images that circulated, it was also possible to observe the residents of the impact scene expressing their astonishment and shock at the event.
