Buenos Aires will host the Summit of Foreign Ministers of CELAC and the European Union

The city of Buenos Aires will host two important meetings of Foreign Ministers and high-level officials next week, such as the Summit of Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), whose Pro Tempore Presidency (PPT) is in hands of Argentina, and the bi-regional meeting that will convene the foreign ministers of the member countries of that regional integration mechanism and the European Union (EU).

According to sources from Palacio San Martín, on Tuesday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m., a bilateral work hearing will be held between Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero and his European counterpart, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. Fontelles, where progress will be made on the outstanding issues of the common agenda between Argentina and the EU.

The European Union, as a bloc, is Argentina’s third largest trading partner and main foreign investor.

During 2021, the trade surplus was USD 549.6 million, with exports reaching USD 9,890.5 million (an increase of 48.1% compared to 2020) and imports for USD 9,310.9 million (41.3% more). compared to 2020).

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the 26th, at the San Martín Palace, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the 32 countries that make up CELAC will meet, in a meeting that will be headed by Foreign Minister Cafiero, who will present the progress and moderate the dialogue on the 15 lines of action established by the PPT Argentina.

Among the points of this roadmap will be the post-Covid-19 economic recovery; regional health strategy; CELAC agenda against corruption; food safety; dialogue with extra-regional partners; integration of Latin American and Caribbean infrastructure; environmental cooperation; and improvement of the situation and condition of women in the member countries.

On Thursday 27, at the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), the meeting of Foreign Ministers of CELAC and the EU will be held, proposed by Argentina with the aim of reinforcing the bi-regional dialogue.

As reported, after the conclave and to explain the scope of this ministerial summit, Foreign Minister Cafiero and his European counterpart, Josep Borrell, will offer a press conference at the San Martín Palace at 3:30 p.m.

From the Argentine Foreign Ministry they stressed that both blocs agree on the “relevance of renewing their strategic association, based on historical, cultural and human ties, and reinforcing ties so that relations reach their full potential.”
