Haitians concerned about violence in their country

Haitianos preocupados por situación violencia en su país

Santo Domingo.-Haitian nationals residing in the country expressed concern about the situation of violence, insecurity, hunger and poverty that Haiti is going through, after armed gangs take control of some areas of Port-au-Prince after the death of President Jovenel Moïse.

Due to this, many have considered as positive the request for help from the international community and its armed forces to contain the gangs and to reduce the scenario of uncertainty throughout the country.

This is the case of Jean Pierre Cassagnol, who left Haiti about a year ago because the situation of violence and insecurity that currently affects the nation did not allow him to financially support his family.

“This is something that is out of control, crime is getting worse every day, any person can hurt you, we are afraid and it is impossible to live there because there is no security and the little you get is not enough to support the family”, Cassagnol pointed out to EL DÍA.

On her side, Marie Antonia Guerlins said that it is difficult to see what is happening in Haiti and even more so to know that her relatives are exposed to any danger.

“My brothers and I came to the Dominican Republic fleeing from what is happening and we are afraid for those who stayed, because that is wrong,” he said. Faced with this problem, the Haitian government requested international military aid to deal with the violence that the country is going through in all areas, aggravated by the reappearance of cholera.

This is why Martin Louis Akcade supports the decision to request help from other countries, because the situation has gotten out of hand for the Government and there is no control.

Emmanuel Blaise expressed that the request was made just at the moment in which the current uncertainty has increased and this could be a permanent solution to what is happening.

“It was fair that this request be made, because the violence has already increased to such a level that not even the authorities can control what happens in some areas of the capital,” Blaise said.

The situation in Haiti continues to be submerged in a deep social, economic and political crisis, aggravated by the assassination of President Moïse on July 7 last year, for which armed gangs have taken possession of neighborhoods and cities in the capital of that country, Port-au-Prince. The violence in Haiti forces many to emigrate and nothing is easier than crossing the border.

Intervention in Haiti

Position
The Dominican Government assured that, in the event of an intervention in Haiti, the Dominican Republic would not be part of a military force and that the support it would give would be from a diplomatic point of view.

Duartians support intervening in Haiti
Help. The Duartian Institute yesterday favored a military intervention in Haiti to deal with the governability crisis facing that nation.

However, the president of the entity, Wilson Gómez Ramírez, indicated that “the accompaniment has to be comprehensive, since the neighboring nation requires other urgent and essential measures.”

He added that these actions require the participation of the Haitian people as an active agent in this process, keeping their self-determination safe.

He considered it essential to create the conditions for that nation to have legal security and an investment climate for native and foreign capital.
