Political prisoner Yasser Rodríguez denounces lack of medical care in prison 1580

Yasser Fernando Rodríguez González, dengue, preso

Havana Cuba. — From the El Pitirre prison of maximum rigor, also known as 1580, located in the capital municipality of San Miguel del Padrón, the political prisoner Yasser Fernando Rodriguez Gonzalez transmitted by telephone to CubaNet statements regarding the lack of medical attention suffered by him in that and other prison facilities where he has been confined.

Yasser Fernando Rodríguez González has been a prisoner since November 25, 2020 in retaliation for filling the facade of his house with anti-Havana regime posters. He was initially in Combinado del Este, then in Valle Grande and currently in 1580. After more than twelve months imprisoned without trial, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for the alleged crime of “inciting rebellion.” ”. He has his body tattooed with phrases against the Castro dictatorship.

The 39-year-old political prisoner carried out a hunger strike from September 19 to October 3 to demand medical attention, specifically that they allow him access to a dental prosthesis and some glasses. Rodríguez González lost most of his teeth as a result of an abscess suffered months ago in prison, for which, at the time, he was also not treated.

The inmate points out that regarding the essential dental prosthesis he has only received evasiveness from the authorities and the health personnel of the penitentiary centers where he has been held captive, particularly in El Pitirre. Although the stomatologist of that place was apparently willing to refer him to the Combinado del Este hospital to have the prosthesis made, Major Osmani Ramírez Díaz (formerly head of unit in that prison and currently second head of unit in El Pitirre) prevents it with the argument that there is no oil for transportation.

However, the political prisoner has verified that there is transportation for other inmates, according to what he states in the audio, in which he also mentions the names, ranks and positions of several prison system officials who were aware of his situation, as well as the multiple evasions to which he has been subjected during his captivity, in addition to other violations and irregularities committed in the prison against him and other inmates.

Yasser Rodríguez also suffers from advanced vision loss, which must be treated in an outpatient ophthalmology clinic. However, the penitentiary authorities in charge of coordinating the appointments have not carried out any formalities in this regard to date. In addition to denying him access to medical care, during his captivity he has been subjected to all kinds of harassment and repressive maneuvers, such as undressing him in front of the other inmates, preventing him from using the telephone, isolating him in a punishment cell, manipulating his food, among others. .
