The wife of political prisoner Róger Reyes denounces the “worrying” situation that the lawyer is going through in the cells of the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as “El Chipote”, where he is locked up and on a hunger strike demanding respect to his rights and to allow him to see his daughter.
«My husband, Róger Reyes, today celebrates 27 days on hunger strike, I am extremely worried because I cannot verify how his health is. The last time I saw Róger was August 8, unfortunately we haven’t had any visitors in a period of 50 days, so I don’t know how he is physically, the only thing I know because he told me during the last visit is that he was going to drink only liquids, ”said his spouse in a virtual press conference along with other relatives of prisoners of conscience.

«I am worried because if you already have poor nutrition in Judicial Assistance and now you do not consume anything. I am concerned about his health and emotional state, I want to remind you that my husband suffered a transitory psychosis due to solitary confinement and is in a two-by-two punishment cell, where he lost his memory and forgot his daughters, and the State still indolent, “he added.
Reyes is serving this October 17, 421 days of being detained, he was the defense attorney of the political prisoner and former candidate for the Presidency of Nicaragua Félix Maradiaga. In addition, he is a member of the Political Council of the opposition Blue and White National Unity (Unab), an organization that has repeatedly demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
He demands that the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo allow him to see his three and five-year-old daughters, with whom he has had no contact since he was apprehended by the Police.

During his confinement, Reyes has developed illnesses such as constipation, depression and insomnia problems, illnesses that he did not suffer from prior to the captivity of which he is a victim of the Ortega-Murillo regime. The Ortega justice sentenced to ten years in prison for the alleged crime of “conspiring to undermine national integrity.” He was also disqualified from holding public office until the completion of his sentence.
